Press release no. 180
Mayoral Ordinance No. 351 of April 17, 2025, issued a bathing ban on certain stretches of coastline within the municipality of Ragusa for public health and environmental reasons.
The affected sections are:
1. Mouth of the Ippari river (175 meters) due to pollution;
2. Port of Marina di Ragusa (630 metres) for other reasons;
3. Irminio River Forest Macchia (2,300 metres) for the protection of the environmental ecosystem.
The ban is valid from May 1st to October 31st 2025.
Furthermore, with ordinance no. 352 of 17 April 2025, aimed at preventing forest fires and urban-rural interface fires in the municipal territory during the summer season (15 May - 31 October 2025), a ban was established on:
1. lighting fires, using open flame or electric appliances to cut metal, smoking, and throwing cigarette butts in wooded or uncultivated areas;
2. burning stubble, grassy material, brushwood, pruning or gardening waste in wooded or uncultivated areas:
3. leaving piles of waste or grass residues near woods or uncultivated land.
Furthermore, landowners are required to:
1. ensure the constant cleaning of the land and the removal of undergrowth, brambles and dry vegetation;
2. keep the land clear of combustible materials for a strip of 20 metres from the road embankment;
3. Remove undergrowth and dry vegetation around buildings and property lines for a 10-meter buffer zone.
The burning of agricultural or forestry material from grass clippings, prunings, or clearings is permitted only in areas away from bushes or trees, in small piles, and in the early hours of the day, after notifying the competent Forestry Department.
Violations of the ordinance's provisions will be subject to administrative fines ranging from €25.00 to €500.00. In the event of causing a fire, an administrative fine ranging from €5,000.00 to €50,000.00 will be applied, in addition to the criminal penalties provided for by the Criminal Code.
